Gnomish History

So what makes a better history for a game setting? Relative vagueness with hints at a past or a detailed history with lots and lots of neat little details? Those are the questions I have to answer in regard to gnome.

Tark,
Because there are so many different versions of what gnomes are like, I think you really have two good options:
1) Detail it out so that all the players are on the same page.
2) Leave it vague, but set it up so that all the various different style of gnomes exist simultaneously.
Anywas, that is what I would do.
